Performs a variety of tasks related to the required environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4 ft8\">ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5 ft11\">The following duties\u00a0<span class=\"ft10\">ARE NOT\u00a0<\/span>intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional,\u00a0position-specific\u00a0duties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p6 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Oversees operation and maintenance of a permanent hazardous waste collection facility (Hazo Hut) and numerous smaller satellite, waste specific sites (PROGRAMS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Staffs, transports, and conducts periodic hazardous waste collection events in remote areas of the county.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Responds immediately and appropriately in the event of an onsite accidental hazardous material spill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Develops and recommends policies for PROGRAMS and operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Assists in preparing budgets for PROGRAMS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Responds intelligently with correct information, verbally and in writing, about proper preparation and disposal of solid and hazardous wastes to the general public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Responds to questions and from the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p9 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Works with other administrative staff in the Division, and Division staff and contractors in the Hazo Hut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Schedules and coordinates with the Solid Waste Manager and others in the Division, as needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Provides technical assistance to residents and businesses on PROGRAMS as related to Hazardous Waste Management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Monitors and evaluates program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Monitors and evaluates program performance; recommends and implements modifications to policies and procedures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Performs quarterly and\u00a0<\/span>semi-annually\u00a0surface and groundwater sampling and landfill gas monitoring tasks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p8 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Keeps inventory of essential monitoring equipment and calibration standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p7 ft3\"><span class=\"ft12\">\u2219<\/span><span class=\"ft13\">Performs reporting requirements in accordance with State and Federal requirements; maintains working relationships with State and local regulatory agency representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"page_2\">\n<div id=\"id2_1\">\n<p class=\"p11 ft8\">WORKING ENVIRONMENT \/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p12 ft3\">Work is performed in a standard office environment; and periodically\u00a0off-site\u00a0with exposure to inclement weather, tools and equipment. Position requires use of hands to finger and handle, ability to reach, strength sufficient to lift 50 pounds and move up to 100 pounds unassisted, physically mobile to get around the Hazo Hut and closed landfill grounds and offices; scale ladders, and climb onto equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p13 ft8\">EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5 ft3\">Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field; AND two (2) years experience in Hazardous Waste Management\u00a0\u2013<span class=\"ft2\">or-<\/span><span class=\"ft2\">\u00a0<\/span>four (4) years experience in Waste Management with two years of primary responsibilities in Hazardous Waste. Must be\u00a0twenty-one\u00a0(21) years of age (minimum).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p14 ft3\">Must obtain certification in Hazardous Materials Incident Response training within one year of employment, certification of forklift operations within six months of employment, First Aid Certification within six months of employment, and Flaggers Certification within six months of employment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p15 ft3\">Obtain\u00a040-hour\u00a0Hazwoper certification and\u00a0follow-up\u00a0with\u00a08-hour\u00a0refresher course each year thereafter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4 ft3\">A valid Driver\u2019s License is required.
