The\u00a0Solid Waste Management<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(SWM) program is looking to fill a\u00a0Recycling Development Center Planner (Environmental Planner 4)\u00a0<\/strong>position. This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in\u00a0Lacey, WA.<\/a><\/p>\n

Duties <\/p>\n

The mission of the\u00a0Solid Waste Management<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(SWM) program is to reduce wastes through prevention and reuse, keep toxics\u00a0out of the environment, and safely manage what remains.<\/p>\n

International restrictions on the export of recyclables have disrupted Washington’s recycling programs.\u00a0As a result, Ecology was directed to establish the Recycling Development Center (Center) (Chapter 70.370 Revised Code of Washington).\u00a0This senior level position will join the Center team as we develop new end markets for our collected and sorted recyclable materials.\u00a0This position will be part of a team passionate about recycling and implementing the work of the Center to sustainably manage materials and reduce the impacts of solid waste on the environment.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Recycling Development Center Planner\u00a0<\/strong>position will work with a team to research technologies and markets for recyclable commodities and to support the growth of recycling businesses in the Northwest. The initial focus of this work will be on materials that have been most impacted by the collapse of the domestic market for recyclable materials. The goal is to create recycling markets in Washington State, reduce reliance on foreign markets, and enhance implementation of Washington’s solid and hazardous waste plan to sustainably managing materials and reduce the impacts of solid waste on the environment.<\/p>\n

We are looking for candidates with a passion for recycling who work well both on a team and individually. The successful candidate must have the ability to analyze and interpret data, communicate with a diverse audience, and communicate with government officials, industry leaders, environmental organizations, and non-profits.<\/p>\n
