OVERVIEW<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Calapooia Watershed Council (CWC) seeks an energetic, passionate individual to serve as a part-time, temporary Assistant Outdoor School Coordinator. The Assistant Coordinator will work closely with the Outdoor School Coordinator to assist with planning and implementation of our growing outdoor school program in the Greater Albany and Central Linn School Districts. The Assistant Coordinator will also help with daily operations at each of the Outdoor School (ODS) camps.<\/p>\n
The CWC developed the Youth Watershed Education Program in 2013 and has been growing its capacity to serve all 5th or 6th grade and high school students in our service area. Current programs include Salmon Watch and Urban Ecology field trips for 5th graders, Outdoor School for 6th graders, stewardship opportunities and snorkeling for high school students, and customizable field trips and lessons for students of all ages. With the passage of Measure 99 \u201cOutdoor School for All\u201d, the CWC has expanded its outdoor school program to include all 6th grade students in Greater Albany and Central Linn School Districts.<\/p>\n
The Assistant ODS Coordinator should be a self-motivated individual with experience in education\/environmental studies and working with children, along with having a proven passion for outdoor education.<\/p>\n
The position period is March 9<\/strong>th<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 May 31<\/strong>st<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a024 hours\/week in the CWC Brownsville office, except for the four weeks of outdoor school, where the Assistant Coordinator will stay overnight at the camps (April 15th \u2013 17th, April 20th \u2013 April 24th,\u00a0 May 4th \u2013 8th , and\u00a0 May 18th \u2013 21st ).<\/p>\nRESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Report to the Outdoor School Coordinator and Education Program Manager<\/li>\n
- Attend ODS planning meetings<\/li>\n
- Lead learning stations at Urban Ecology field trips<\/li>\n
- Assist with classroom lessons<\/li>\n
- Assist with coordination of ODS high school leader trainings<\/li>\n
- Manage ODS equipment<\/li>\n
- Attend & assist with the supervision of all ODS camps<\/li>\n
- Lead ODS Lesson stations<\/li>\n
- Assist with Campfire programs<\/li>\n
- Mentor High School Leaders<\/li>\n
- Be a secondary point of contact for teachers and volunteers during ODS<\/li>\n
- Following the camps, assist with OSU Extension M99 reporting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Prior experience working in environmental education or in a camp setting\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
- High School Diploma or GED<\/li>\n
- Strong public speaking and written communication skills<\/li>\n
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills<\/li>\n
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including overnights and weekends<\/li>\n
- Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds<\/li>\n
- Proficient with Google Drive\/Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)<\/li>\n
- Ability to pass a criminal background check<\/li>\n
- Valid Oregon driver\u2019s license<\/strong><\/li>\n
- Proof of auto liability insurance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Prior outdoor school experience<\/li>\n
- Spanish language skills<\/strong><\/li>\n
- CPR, First Aid, and\/or EpiPen certification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
COMPENSATION<\/strong><\/p>\nA $6,500 stipend, before taxes, will be paid in three monthly installments. No health insurance or benefits will be provided. Mileage beyond the regular commute to Brownsville, OR will be reimbursed at the IRS standard rate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
