This role is excellent for an individual with experience in volunteer training, coordination and education and with a background in community science activities and marine science. WSG Crab Team\u2019s strength is in the commitment of the volunteers and partners who contribute to and support the program and its goals. The Crab Team Coordinator\u2019s principal responsibilities are to recruit, train and support those program participants and ensure data quality by reviewing data submissions. The Coordinator also supports the Crab Team Program Manager in various program activities, including outreach, equipment purchases and distribution, access to monitoring sites and rapid response coordination and implementation. Crab team outreach and volunteer and partner engagement and communication adhere to Washington Sea Grant&#8217;s values and commitment to inclusivity and equity.<\/p>\n<p>The Crab Team Coordinator position is an integral member of WSG\u2019s Crab Team which is a program in WSG\u2019s Marine Advisory Services, working independently but also cooperatively with WSG colleagues, university and government researchers, natural resource managers, coastal communities and the public. The WSG Crab Team is a Puget Sound-wide, early detection program for the invasive European green crab, and the coordinator must ensure that volunteer recruitment, training, monitoring and data reporting activities are timely and effectively communicated. Crab Team activities require frequent travel throughout the Puget Sound area, with more intense periods of travel in spring and summer for group and on-site training and education. The Crab Team Coordinator will have significant interaction with a large volunteer and partner community, and will be sensitive to their needs.<\/p>\n<p>WSG is housed within the UW College of the Environment and is a unique unit with federally designated responsibilities for all of Washington to support ocean-related research, education, outreach and communications. WSG serves the state and the region by providing inclusive technical assistance to coastal users and managers, engaging the public in activities that promote ecosystem health, educating students of all ages and backgrounds, and encouraging science-based solutions to marine issues. The Crab Team Coordinator serves as a conduit between the university and hundreds of Washington citizens and tribal, governmental and non-governmental partners, delivering and connecting them with current UW research, faculty, students and other university resources.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, WSG maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, by pursuing diverse perspectives, and enhancing cultural understanding. WSG works to create equitable access to resources and opportunities for Washington\u2019s diverse communities and seeks to incorporate their voices and priorities. WSG\u2019s values are informed by environmental justice and are based in a culture of inclusion, respect, long-term engagement and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>This position is 75% FTE and has sustainable funding through 18 months at a minimum with further fundraising anticipated. Of that 75%, the following is a breakdown of the position responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Crab Team volunteer training and education<br \/>\n\u2022Coordinate Crab Team volunteer recruitment and training for several locations around Washington&#8217;s Salish Sea.<br \/>\n\u2022Develop and contribute to volunteer training materials and program communications, including the Crab Team newsletter.<br \/>\n\u2022Coordinate enrichment programs for Crab Team volunteers and partners.<br \/>\n\u2022Conduct on-site training and enrichment through monitoring site visits from April to September.<\/p>\n<p>Crab Team volunteer coordination<br \/>\n\u2022Assist in establishing monitoring sites and addressing site access permissions.<br \/>\n\u2022Coordinate volunteer and parter staffing of monitoring sites.<br \/>\n\u2022Request, review and enter data submissions from volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>Crab Team support and materials<br \/>\n\u2022Develop and deliver materials and presentations for public audiences.<br \/>\n\u2022Recruit and engage potential undergraduate interns when opportunities are available.<br \/>\n\u2022Assist with rapid response efforts.<\/p>\n<p><b>As a UW employee, you will enjoy generous benefits and work\/life programs.\u00a0 For detailed information on Benefits for this position,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/benefits\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/benefits-academic-professional-librarians-staff-20190627.pdf\">click here.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Required Qualifications:<br \/>\nBachelor\u2019s Degree plus 3 years of experience in environmental and\/or fisheries sciences, marine affairs, oceanography, education, communications or policy OR Master\u2019s Degree plus 1 year of relevant work experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Capacity to manage demanding workflow and competing deadlines; initiate, manage and complete tasks with minimal supervision; work effectively with diverse constituencies; and maintain attention to detail and process.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Excellent written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate the ability to interpret technical information and explain it accurately in nontechnical language.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education\/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license\/certification\/registration.<\/p>\n<p>Desired Qualifications:<br \/>\n\u2022Experience working with large numbers of volunteers, demonstrating effective recruitment, training and continuing education<br \/>\n\u2022Experience with data entry and quality assurance.<br \/>\n\u2022Knowledge of the complex relationships among federal, state and tribal resource management authorities in Washington.<br \/>\n\u2022Current knowledge of conservation and management issues associated with marine ecology and coastal aquatic invasive species in the Pacific Northwest.<br \/>\n\u2022Knowledge of current aquatic invasive species projects and partners in Washington.<br \/>\n\u2022Commitment and\/or an interest in learning more about to diversity, equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>Application Process:<br \/>\nThe application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.\u00a0 These assessments may include Workforce Authorization, Cover Letter and\/or others.\u00a0 Any assessments that you need to complete will appear on your screen as soon as you select \u201cApply to this position\u201d.
