{"id":849,"date":"2019-12-03T18:01:56","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T02:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/?p=849"},"modified":"2019-12-03T18:02:05","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T02:02:05","slug":"communities-of-practice-at-the-learning-and-teaching-commons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/2019\/12\/communities-of-practice-at-the-learning-and-teaching-commons\/","title":{"rendered":"Communities of Practice at the Learning and Teaching Commons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #333333\">The Learning and Teaching Commons will be piloting several communities of practice (CoPs) to support professional learning for faculty and staff. \u00a0The term, Community of Practice was coined by Lave and Wenger (1991) to describe \u201cgroups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly\u201d &#8211; an approach to professional learning that affirms Evergreen\u2019s commitment to learning communities. \u00a0Each of our professional journeys are unique &#8211; participating in communities of practice presents an opportunity to leverage the diverse knowledge and perspectives of individuals in the service professional growth. Several CoPs emerged to continue learning from the Summer Institutes. \u00a0Look out for updates from these dynamic learning groups!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Evergreen\u2019s First Year Experience<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Supporting Neurodiverse Students<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Evergreen Leadership<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Team Planning: \u00a0Inquiry-Based Design<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333\">Leading with Racial Equity<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333\"> The Learning and Teaching Commons has partnered with Student and Academic Life to pilot two additional Communities of Practice for our staff colleagues. \u00a0These CoPs described below are informed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naspa.org\/images\/uploads\/main\/ACPA_NASPA_Professional_Competencies_FINAL.pdf\">ACPA\/NASPA Student Affairs Professional Competencies<\/a>. \u00a0To indicate your interest in either of these communities of practice, please complete\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evergreenkatief.sjc1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_7R0i6xzaCjRXS1D\">this survey<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><u>Supervisors Community of Practice<\/u><\/b> will focus on the art of supervision (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naspa.org\/images\/uploads\/main\/ACPA_NASPA_Professional_Competencies_FINAL.pdf\">see page 24<\/a>)<br \/>\n<b><i>Target Audience<\/i><\/b>: Anyone who serves as a supervisor or is interested in learning more about the art of supervision<\/p>\n<p><b><u>Personal &amp; Ethical Foundations\/Social Justice &amp; Inclusion Community of Practice<\/u><\/b> will focus on awareness and understanding of one\u2019s values and beliefs in relation to professional codes of ethics and principles for personal wellness and understanding oppression, privilege, power and social justice.
