{"id":791,"date":"2019-10-09T09:16:10","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T16:16:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/?p=791"},"modified":"2019-10-09T09:16:10","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T16:16:10","slug":"resources-for-undocumented-and-daca-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/2019\/10\/resources-for-undocumented-and-daca-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources for undocumented and DACA students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/440\/2019\/10\/Supporting-Undoc-Students-Resources-Syllabus-lgg.docx\">Supporting Undocumented Students Resources + Syllabus lgg<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ltc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/440\/2019\/10\/TESC-Resource-Flyer-fall-2019-SUPPORTING-UNDOCUMENTED-AND-DACA.docx\">TESC Resource Flyer fall 2019 SUPPORTING UNDOCUMENTED AND DACA<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>10 ways you can support undocumented students at TESC:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Always assume that there is an undocumented student in your program or that you will be working with undocumented students in your role as a staff person.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Create alternative opportunities for students (i.e. for field trips, discussions of study abroad opportunities, or discussions of life after college) so they don\u2019t have to reveal themselves as undocumented.<\/li>\n<li>Have a secondary plan that accommodates the needs of those students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Allow students full agency for if, when, and how to reveal their stories.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t make assumptions about who is or is not an undocumented student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Don\u2019t answer questions about your own citizenship status and don\u2019t answer questions about other students\u2019 status: this creates a climate that asserts everyone\u2019s right not to answer questions about citizenship status and protects non-citizens from being singled out.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>And of course: don\u2019t ask questions about citizenship or immigration status..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Make it safe for students to share that they are undocumented.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Make your support for undocumented students public (by, for example, passing out information relevant to undocumented students at the beginning of the quarter, or including language in your syllabus about supporting students, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Help other students in your program understand ways of being inclusive to undocumented students, including avoiding hurtful language (such as the term \u201cillegal\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Make resources available and visible, and make them available to <u>all<\/u> students so undocumented students don\u2019t have to reveal their status in order to access resources.<\/li>\n<li>Even if you don\u2019t know how to help a student, it makes a difference when you show yourself as willing to help and figure out possible solutions..<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Attend a training!
