Now that summer is nearing the end, it is time to start thinking about summer school 2025! I\u2019m writing today to ask you for your undergraduate* summer school 2025 curriculum proposals<\/strong>!\u00a0The hard deadline for initial consideration is 11:59 pm, Friday, 1 November.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n We encourage innovative and creative curriculum<\/strong> proposals, as well as proposals that support students in successfully moving forward with their path and other academic goals<\/strong>. If you are interested in teaching next summer, please enter your undergraduate summer school curriculum through the Curriculum Development link in your my.evergreen.edu<\/a><\/u>. If you are interested in repeating a previous summer undergraduate offering, contact Emmie Forman (formane@evergreen.edu<\/a><\/u>) to have your previous offering copied forward for editing.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Because the hiring process for summer is entirely separate from the regular academic year, if you have a faculty contract during 2024-25 and<\/strong> did not teach during summer 2024<\/strong>, you will need to submit an employment application to the Summer School faculty posting<\/a><\/u> in addition to entering your curriculum through my.evergreen.edu<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Summer school: remote, in-person, and hybrid offerings.<\/strong> We will consider proposals for all modalities (all-remote, hybrid, and fully in-person). We continue to see a variety of preferences for modality; some students are attracted to remote-only study (and some can only study remotely), while others are interested in studying only in person. Please consider proposing offerings for all-remote study, as well as both hybrid and wholly in-person modalities. We appreciate your flexibility.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n NEW INFORMATION FOR <\/strong><\/em>Study Abroad: <\/strong>We will be working to better align the summer school timeline with the study abroad timeline for the regular academic year. The standard summer school timeline simply does not allow students sufficient time to learn about study abroad opportunities and place necessary deposits before deadlines set by partners in other countries. It will take us a few cycles to align the summer school and the study abroad timelines. In the meantime, for summer school \u201825, please complete a study abroad proposal<\/a><\/u> as well as submit your summer curriculum as usual, but we will make expedited decisions for study-abroad proposals. <\/strong>If you have questions specifically about study-abroad matters, please email Brynn Smith (brynn.smith@evergreen.edu<\/a><\/u>) or Kristina Ackley (ackleyk@evergreen.edu<\/a><\/u>).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Space, schedule, and support: <\/strong>Please enter your proposed meeting schedule into Schedule Evergreen<\/a><\/u> by November 1. Your class will show up to schedule in the scheduling system one day after you have hit the submit button on your proposal in the curriculum system as it takes the two systems overnight to communicate with each other!<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Media Services<\/strong>: We expect a significant portion of next summer’s curriculum will be taught in person, so please include on your proposals any specific requests for space usage and media workshops.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The process for determining<\/strong> our summer offerings will remain much the same as last year. Curriculum proposals are reviewed by the Curricular Area Team leaders, path conveners where necessary, and curriculum deans, and planning is done in consultation with area managers and other stewards of college space and resources.\u00a0We will work using the following criteria<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Identify necessary curriculum for continuation and preparation of offerings during the academic year.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Identify offerings that significantly diversify our academic year curriculum.<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Identify and support a balance of remote offerings across a variety of subject areas.<\/p>\n 4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Per CBA article 29.3.2 \u201cPriority is given to current regular and adjunct faculty and to retired faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n 5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Faculty not on contract in 2024-25 and who did not teach in summer school in 2024 will be able to propose summer offerings within specific high-need areas.
