Dear CIEL Members and Friends,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to share with you more details about our annual conference, returning to its usual fall time, but mixing both in person and online elements this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The annual conference will take place between Oct 14 and Oct 16 hosted by New College Alabama with the theme of \u201cInnovation and Inclusive Education for the Next 50 Years.\u201d  October 15 will be a day of mostly virtual presentations, aimed primarily at CIEL students and faculty.  We are particularly eager to incorporate more panels that open up dialogue between students and initiatives at various CIEL schools.  So, particularly for faculty, if you have a class or a group of students working in an interesting area, would like to give them the opportunity to present and open up a wider dialogue with students from other CIEL schools, we would love to hear from you.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now we are in the process of developing a series of subthemes for various panels, but we\u2019ve already heard from some people who are interested in the following areas: 1) environmental justice issues, 2) adaptive teaching\/learning strategies emerging from the pandemic, 3) diversity initiatives, 4) interdisciplinary initiatives, and 5) enrollment and the future of progressive education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the virtual panel, we are hoping to convene a smaller group of leaders from CIEL schools in Tuscaloosa for conversations and presentations that are in the format of more traditional CIEL conferences.  The in-person aspect of the conference will begin with a dinner on October 14 and include a round of in person panels and opportunities for interaction on October 15 and 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve set up a brief form that you can find here to submit panel ideas or other proposals<\/a>.  If you are planning on attending the conference in person, or are considering, we ask that you express your interest here<\/a>.  If you have any other questions please don\u2019t hesitate to reach out to either Julia (cherr002@ua.edu<\/a>) or Noah (ncoburn@bennington.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
