Spring\nGreetings, All!<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unbelievably, it is already lilac\nseason! We hope your spring quarter is going well. Please read the notice\nbelow, and keep on hand for a ready reference.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summer Institutes: <\/strong>Thanks to all\nof you who submitted amazing proposals for 2021\nSummer Institutes<\/a>!   This summer\u2019s program offers opportunities to\nbuild community, improve our practice, and engage in meaningful conversations\nabout student success. This year, the Commons is sponsoring a new\nconference-style institute, Designing Learning Experiences that Matter, that\nmerges the principles of intentional and universal design approaches to program\nand course planning with a variety optional workshops. The institute will be offered twice this summer,\nJune 14-18 and Aug 2-6. Registration for summer institutes is open until May 15. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

STUDENT SUPPORT<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week 5 check in and support: <\/strong>Please refresh\nyourself on some of our mid-quarter\npointers from April 2020<\/a>\u2014still relevant and hopefully\nhelpful! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Assessment:<\/strong> While we\nare still in this remote environment, we encourage you to continue to extend flexibility<\/em> to assist students in earning as many credits as\npossible. Please remember that a student who earns less than 12 of their\nregistered credits can face serious financial aid consequences, because less\nthan 12 credits put them at \u201chalf-time\u201d status and they may need to return substantial\nfinancial aid. Students earning less than \u00be of any attempted credits can move into\nAcademic Warning (after two such quarters) or Required Leave of Absence (after\nthree such quarters). If a student gets ill, please advise them carefully about\noptions to earn the most credits possible, including provisions for make-up\nwork. Inform students about the campus leave\nof absence <\/a>option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basic Needs Center<\/strong>: Please let\nstudents know they can make an appointment<\/a> to access the Basic Needs\nCenter. It is open on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3pm-6pm, for 15-minute drop ins.\nIt is located on the first floor of the CAB (former space for the bike shop).\nItems currently available in limited quantities includes: PPE, food pantry type staples, clothes, hygiene\nitems, and books. If you have questions, please contact Ellen Short Sanchez or Jeannette Smith.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The <\/strong>HAPPieR Holistic Advising: Policy & Practices Review<\/strong> work\ngroup, which is part of New Academic Directions, has not had opportunity to\ncome before the faculty meeting due to many other pressing agenda items.\nHowever, we have posted an update including a draft\nof recommendations<\/a> at the Big Bets\/New Academic Directions blogsite. Please\nreview as you are able. We hope to bring pieces of this before the faculty this\nspring and will develop workshops for summer program planning.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Statements: <\/strong>Students will\nstill be required to submit their annual and final academic statements this\nspring. As you know, a well-written Academic Statement is a tribute to the\nstudent\u2019s learning; a hastily written one can overshadow all the wonderful\nthings you write about them in your evaluations. With that in\nmind, we encourage you to dedicate some extra attention to the Academic\nStatement in your 5th<\/sup> week\nconferences, particularly for your graduating seniors. Annual\niterations of the statement are due May 21<\/strong>; graduating seniors need to submit their final\nstatement by June 11<\/strong>. Student Wellness Services<\/strong><\/a> is operating,\nand available to provide support to students via phone and HIPAA compliant\nvideo conferencing.  We recommend that you submit a report to the Care\nTeam<\/a> if there is\nelevated concern for a student\u2019s well-being or safety, especially if there is\ndanger of credit loss.  Care Team members will try to connect with the\nstudent and offer resources\/support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upcoming dates<\/strong>:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Fair: <\/strong>The Academic Fair will be held remotely on May 19 from 4-6pm<\/strong>. Please look out for an email from our colleagues in\nregistration asking you to provide a zoom link and handouts.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration week for summer\nand fall quarters will now begin on<\/strong> May 24, 2021.<\/strong> <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commencement: <\/strong>Evergreen will\nbe hosting a virtual commencement ceremony on Friday, June 11<\/strong> to honor the class of 2021. If you have not already voted for faculty graduation\nspeaker, you can do so here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
