This year, the Commons is sponsoring a new\nconference-style institute, Designing Learning Experiences that Matter, that\nmerges the principles of intentional and universal design approaches to program\nand course planning with a variety&nbsp;optional workshops. The institute will be offered twice this summer,\nJune 14-18 and Aug 2-6. Please remember that a student who earns less than 12 of their\nregistered credits can face serious financial aid consequences, because less\nthan 12 credits put them at \u201chalf-time\u201d&nbsp;status&nbsp;and they may need to return substantial\nfinancial aid. Students earning less than \u00be of any attempted credits can move into\nAcademic Warning (after two such quarters) or Required Leave of Absence (after\nthree such quarters). If a student gets ill, please advise them carefully about\noptions to earn the most credits possible, including provisions for make-up\nwork. As you know, a well-written Academic Statement is a tribute to the\nstudent\u2019s learning; a hastily written one can overshadow all the wonderful\nthings you write about them in your evaluations.&nbsp;With that in\nmind, we encourage you to dedicate some extra attention to the Academic\nStatement in your 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;week\nconferences, particularly for your graduating seniors.&nbsp;Annual\niterations of the statement are due<strong>&nbsp;May&nbsp;21<\/strong>; graduating seniors need to submit their final\nstatement by<strong>&nbsp;June&nbsp;11<\/strong>.
