The catalog is now updated! About 70% of our\nundergraduate fall offerings will be on a hybrid footing, and the other 30%\nwill be remote. Our next task is to publish schedules by Academic Fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current COVID-19 restrictions will leave\nEvergreen with significantly reduced room capacity and cohort sizes in fall.\nIn-person classes will be conducted in groups of no more than 25 students.\nFull-time offerings should be able to hold in-person class meetings up to 8\nhours per week, in two 4-hour blocks. To accommodate these restrictions, we\nhave developed a set of \u201cschedule footprints\u201d built of morning, afternoon, and\nevening blocks. When you submitted your revised\ncatalog information, scheduling was unresolved. We lacked good information and\nwe needed a plan, so we deferred our decision-making. Since then, we have not\nreceived any more definite information about social distancing or budget-related\nbuilding closures. Good news: we now have a scheduling plan, thanks to a\ndedicated team of faculty and staff.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What are we doing? Students need schedule\ninformation in time for general registration. We have devised <strong>a collection\nof pre-set weekly schedules <\/strong>to give clarity to students, faculty, and staff\nabout the general outline of our classes. This scheduling plan allows us to <strong>allocate\ntimes now <\/strong>and <strong>allocate spaces later<\/strong>. Collections of time blocks\ncalled \u201cschedule footprints\u201d will give students enough information to plan\ntheir lives even as we await information about specific room assignments and\nspacing. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How does it work? \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The week has been broken into morning, afternoon, and evening blocks.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Each academic offering will&nbsp;<strong>select a preset \u201cschedule footprint\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong>of morning, afternoon, or evening time blocks across the week.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Scheduling footprints offer you&nbsp;<strong>more time than you need<\/strong>. You can then put your synchronous class times anywhere within these blocks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;All rooms will be subject to 6-foot social distance&nbsp;space occupancy limits.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>Gatherings larger than 25 students should be held online.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The plan will allow every student in a hybrid program&nbsp;to attend in-person classes at least twice a week, or up to half of the instructional time.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We will ask which days you want to teach in person.<strong>&nbsp;Each faculty member in a full-time offering will get at least two blocks per week for in-person instruction.&nbsp;<\/strong>That should allow students in hybrid offerings to get about half their instruction in person.Courses and 8-credit programs will be allocated enough blocks to meet the same ratio. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>We will allocate faculty classrooms (or sets of rooms) big enough to hold 25 students safely.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Labs and studios&nbsp;<\/strong>will hold variable numbers of students and will be allocated separately&nbsp;from other instructional spaces.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Please don\u2019t schedule in-person and remote classes on the same day.<\/strong>&nbsp;This minimizes travel disruptions, and minimizes students doing remote work on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s the timeline? By providing information by\nMay 5, Evergreen will be able to provide students with schedules for fall\nregistration.
