The Learning and Teaching Commons is delighted to announce the 2021 Summer Institute program<\/a>!!\u00a0 Many, many thanks to the conveners who have crafted engaging and meaningful opportunities for our collective growth as a learning organization.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summer\nInstitute Program<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Start by visiting the 2021 Evergreen Summer Institute Program<\/a> and making your choices. Space in each summer institute is limited, so make your selections soon! To aid your planning and selection, the program<\/a> includes a convenient Week-by-Week schedule of all the summer institute offerings followed by detailed descriptions of each offering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2021 summer institutes will be virtual<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

We so wish that we could gather in person! We REALLY miss 3D people and potlucks!  But, given that we aren\u2019t yet prepared for in-person activities AND we want to prioritize getting students back in classrooms, we\u2019ve made the hard decision to do one more summer as remote. Each institute will have a \u201chome room\u201d in Canvas where you will find schedules, resources, and zoom links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designing Learning Experiences that Matter (offered twice)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This institute merges the principles of intentional and\nuniversal design approaches with the opportunity to explore or deepen one\u2019s\nexperience with a variety of teaching strategies. You will leave this institute\nwith a draft syllabus for the course or program you are teaching in fall.\nThrough a conference style approach, you can craft this institute to best\nsupport your development needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategies for Social Justice Pedagogy at Evergreen<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Explore the challenges and possibilities of teaching content\nrelated to social justice (including but not limited to racial justice, gender\njustice, and disability justice) to our students. How do we think about how to\ncenter those most impacted by structural oppression in these conversations? How\ndo we support students in accessing these conversations from the complex spaces\nof marginalization and privilege they hold? How can we see education as a\n\u201cpractice of freedom\u201d, as bell hooks calls it, by incorporating social justice\nprinciples in our classrooms?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Justice Center Opening and Trainings<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In fall 2021 a new Social Justice Center will be opening on\ncampus. This institute will highlight the center, what it is, what it is for,\nand how staff, faculty, and students can utilize the space! Part of the new\nSocial Justice Center and Campus Climate and Belonging work will be a DEI\nTraining Program. Join this institute to learn more about the center and\nexperience a training workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holistic Advising: Supporting the Whole Student through an\nEquity Lens<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Take part in this student-centered initiative to make an\nEvergreen education more accessible, equitable, and transformative for diverse\nstudents. The holistic advising model aligns policies and practices to address\nthe whole student by meeting their basic needs, building resilience and student\nsuccess strategies, and guiding the student toward curricular and professional\ninterests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking Action on Equity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This institute will lead teams and individuals through writing\nEquity Action Plans for their division or curricular area. Join this collective\nwork to vitally transform Evergreen by embedding and institutionalizing\nequitable and inclusive practices in every effort, aspect, and level of our\ncollege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
