A bit of blue sky here and there is showing a little\npromise of spring! Hope you are getting out to enjoy it. Please read\nthe following messages in their entirety in order to best support students and\nyour work!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVENTS AND DEADLINES <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 SURF projects. <\/strong>Thanks to all of you who submitted SURF projects for our\nstudents this summer. The student applications will be posted on the website\nvery soon. Please encourage students to apply. The deadline is Monday,\nMarch 22, 2021.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Academic Fair<\/strong> is Wednesday, March 3<\/strong>rd<\/sup>, from 4 to 6 pm <\/strong>via\nzoom. Please set up your own zoom meetings for the fair<\/strong>.\nSee:  Schedule a Zoom Meeting via the\nWeb Portal<\/a>. Those zoom links, as well as\nyour fair handouts, will be provided to students on a webpage. Links\nwill also be available to the other offices and support services students are\naccustomed to finding at the fair (The deadline was Feb 24\nfor this;<\/strong> contact Registration and Records if you missed it and need\nhelp).    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Ramping up\nfor fall in-person instruction. <\/strong>As Trevor Speller wrote in a recent email, many of you\nhave questions about fall 2021. The curriculum team hopes to present an information\nsession during the Week 10 faculty meeting, <\/strong>to discuss planning for\nfall instruction and gather feedback on the planning process. March\n29 is the deadline to complete the fall \u201821 catalog\nrevision form.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Individual Learning Contract\nand Internship Deadline<\/strong>: Please remember\nthat Friday of Week 10 (March 12<\/strong>, 2021<\/strong>), is the\ndeadline for faculty approval of next quarter ILCs and\ninternships.  Please encourage students to pay attention to\nthis deadline.<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Library and Media Services now\nhas a four week minimum, rolling deadline.<\/strong> Library and Media Services offers many supports,\nincluding book purchases, media equipment proficiency instruction, media\nequipment workshops, media support for academic\nevents, etc. Place requests four weeks in advance of the needed\ndate. It is no longer accepted practice to make last minute requests<\/em><\/strong>.  Fall 2021 instructional support\nneeds: if you are designing curriculum for fall that includes media\nequipment purchasing, media software, licenses, etc., the window of\nopportunity to make requests is between March 1 \u201329, prior to adjusting the\ncatalog.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Climate Center Community\nForum. <\/strong>All students, staff and\nfaculty are invited to join us for a community forum to discuss the new Center\nfor Climate Action and Sustainability on March 3, 1:00-2:30 pm:  <\/strong>https:\/\/evergreen.zoom.us\/j\/84437004230<\/a>  We are thrilled with the news of a donation to support the\nlaunch of a Center for Climate Action and Sustainability on\ncampus. An advisory group would like to hear from you and your\nstudents. Please share this invitation with them.  These\nconversations will help us determine the scope of the Center, draft a\nmission statement, and recruit a Center Director. We hope to launch\nthe new Center in the next academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

END OF QUARTER REMINDERS<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Don\u2019t forget that all\nstudents are required to write a self-evaluation for each program they take<\/strong>, and\nthis self-evaluation should be turned in through my.evergreen.edu. <\/strong>Doing\nso does not submit the self-evaluation to the student\u2019s transcript (there are\nplenty of online warnings)! Students are not obliged to post self-evaluations\nto their transcript. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/strong>\u2665 Helping Students Write their\nEvaluations of Faculty: <\/strong>This may be a\ngenre of writing unfamiliar to new students. You can support them (and solicit\nmore meaningful feedback) by clarifying for them: 1) the purpose of writing the\nevaluation; 2) the audiences who will read the evaluation. Helpful prompts\ncould provide them with elements of work they might likely comment upon such as\nclarity of syllabus and assignments, fostering of learning community,\nfacilitation of productive seminar, etc. Student evaluations of faculty can be submitted\nthrough my.evergreen.edu, and students have the option of making it\nvisible only after their credit has been posted.<\/em> Please note:\na practice in the past was for faculty to ask students to bring their faculty\neval to conferences and read it out loud; this is no longer a common\npractice.<\/em><\/strong> Students have a right to submit feedback privately,\nvisible to faculty only after evaluations have been posted.  Students\nreport a genuine interest in providing constructive feedback to faculty, and\nthe depth and quality of feedback is often increased after a workshop on how to\nwrite these evaluations.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2665 Awarding Incompletes. <\/strong> Offering incompletes for extended periods of time\nputs us in tension with federal policies and processes for returning financial\naid funds. We ask that you only provide students, to whom you know you\nwill be awarding some<\/em> credit, with a thirty-day\nextension.<\/strong> This would not only remove any conflict with meeting\nfederal policies and processes, but also will not drag student incompletes\nout.  If you will be awarding no credit, this must be posted by\nthe college\u2019s evaluation due date, which is within two weeks of the end of the\nterm. <\/strong>Even as students are engaged with making up\nwork, please document the credits that have been earned in the online\nrecord system at the end of the program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
