Hello Geoduck Family!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happy Week 6 of\nWinter quarter, I hope you all are safe and well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am reaching out\nwith an invitation to attend a virtual presentation MES will host next Friday,\nFebruary 19th<\/sup>, on seabed mining which involves the extraction of valuable\nminerals from the seafloor through harmful disruption of the environment.\nDriven by an increasing demand for mineral resources and advances in\nextractive technology, companies around the globe are looking at the ocean as\nthe \u201cnext frontier\u201d to harvest these resources. Unfortunately, the health and\nproductivity of marine ecosystems, as well as the human communities that depend\non them, hangs in the balance. Liz Schotman, Surfrider Foundation’s<\/a>\nWashington Regional Manager, and Lee First with Twin Harbors Waterkeeper<\/a>,\nwill present on seabed mining and our emerging efforts to\nprotect Washington’s coast from this extractive industry. This event is\nfree and open for Evergreen staff, faculty, and students to attend so please\nfeel free to share the event information with your students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
