Dear Evergreen Community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please join us in\ncelebrating Jean Eberhardt, who recently retired from her position as Academic\nAdvisor at the end of December.  Jean graduated from Evergreen in 1999\n(with Mumia Abu Jamal as her graduation speaker!), and was hired as an Advisor\nin September 2000. In her 20 years of service, Jean enjoyed working closely\nwith students.  She was often the only queer and Spanish-speaking advisor,\nproviding extra support to our diverse students.  As a founding member of the\nThurston-Santo Thomas Sister County Association, Jean facilitated rich exchange\nopportunities for Evergreen students and Nicaraguan delegations that\ncontributed to our Latin American Studies programs. She also served as interim\nStudy Abroad Coordinator on two occasions, and was active with the Latinx\nStanding Committee and Undocumented Student Task Force.  Jean was involved\nwith Day of Absence\/Day of Presence, supported legislative internships and\nundergrad students interested in MiT, and helped establish the Raquel Salinas\nMemorial Scholarship. She also served on the bargaining team for Student\nSupport Services\u2014the first bargaining of an exempt staff in higher education in\nWashington State (2012-13). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her 20 years in Advising, Jean made a\npositive difference in the lives of hundreds of students, built strong\nrelationships with faculty and community partners, and fully embodied\nEvergreen\u2019s commitments to diversity and social justice. Her humor, care, and\ndedication to community-building will be missed, but you may find her in her\ngarden or continuing her work in the local Strengthening Sanctuary\nAlliance and the Thurston-Santo Tomas Sister County Association. We invite\nyou to join us in celebrating her many contributions to our community!
