Saturday, February 20, 1-3pm<\/strong> February 1, 2021   Dear Community, Happy Black History Month! We invite you to join Evergreen-Tacoma, the Climate Justice & Resilience Lecture Series, and Inclusive Excellence & Student Success for this exciting Unsoeld Lecture with celebrated musician and artist, Toshi Reagon. Some programs and divisions are reading Octavia Butler\u2019s Parable of the Sower, <\/em>which is available through the Evergreen Library as an e-book<\/a>. As we honor, learn from, and celebrate Black lives and African American culture, we\u2019re also collaborating on weekly Black History programming\u2014stay tuned for more details.   In solidarity and community,  Therese Saliba

Evergreen’s Unsoeld Lecture presents Toshi Reagon on Parable of the Sower<\/em> Saturday, February 20

Zoom link announced the week before the event   TOSHI REAGON is a talented and versatile singer, composer, and musician with a profound ear for sonic Americana\u2014from folk to funk, from blues to rock. She has performed in venues from Carnegie Hall and the Paris Opera House to music festivals and local clubs, and collaborated with many well-known artists. Toshi will be performing excerpts from the opera Octavia E. Butler\u2019s Parable of he Sower, which she created with her mother Bernice Johnson Reagon. She will also discuss the role of the artist in times of crisis, including the pandemic, the climate crisis, and the ongoing struggle for racial and social justice. The event is hosted by Evergreen\u2014Tacoma and moderated by Dean Marcia Tate Arunga.
