Looking toward Winter\nQuarter 2021, the Division of Inclusive Excellence & Student\nSuccess (IESS) is collaborating with campus and community partners\nto provide some exciting Racial Equity and Social Justice programming for\nstudents, staff, and faculty. Please mark your calendars for the events\nbelow and consider integrating them into your programs and\ncourses. Join us in celebrating the achievements of those\non the frontlines in intersectional struggles for justice\u2014through\nactivism, artistic expression, and education–as we strive\ncollectively to create a community with this\nliberatory vision at its center.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversation on Community\nSafety, Policing & Racial Justice video now available<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This dynamic panel conversation on\nNovember 16 explored urgent national and regional issues, brought to the\nfore in the wake of George Floyd\u2019s killing, with historic protests\ncalling for Black solidarity and racial justice. Monica Alexander (Evergreen\nAlum, Board of Trustees Member, and former Chief of the Washington State\nPatrol), Naomi Ishisaka (Seattle Times Social Justice Columnist and\nEvergreen Alum), and Dr. Gilda Sheppard (Filmmaker and Evergreen Tacoma\nFaculty) offered a range of insightful perspectives on these key issues of\nour times. If you missed the event, or would like to use it in your\nprograms, it is available at https:\/\/youtu.be\/hnBNcKEg6k0<\/a>.      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day\nEvent with First Peoples and Evergreen Tacoma <\/strong>

You are invited to join the\nEvergreen community in celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther\nKing, Jr. This conversation will lift the voices of those who worked in\nsupport of the Black Civil Rights Movement and those who continue to struggle\nfor black liberation today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Black History Month\nCelebrations <\/strong>will take place weekly\n(on Wednesdays) throughout February\u2014stay tuned for more details. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

YWCA Womxn of\nAchievement Celebration <\/strong> 
\nwith Special Guest Patrisse Cullors, BLM\nco-founder  
\nFriday, February 19, 6:30 \u2013\n8:15 p.m.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IESS, The\nEvergreen Foundation, and YWCA are pleased to announce the\nrescheduling of the 2020 Womxn of\nAchievement Celebration<\/a> featuring Patrisse Cullors. Cullors is\na co-founder of Black Lives Matter, a longtime frontline\nactivist for criminal justice reform, and best-selling author of When\nThey Call You a Terrorist<\/em>. This event honors local activists Talauna Reed,\nEarth-Feather Sovereign, and Tanikka Watford Williams, who will share the\nvirtual stage with Cullors. Special thanks to Evergreen Media Services for\ntheir support.  Evergreen\ncommunity members will be able to register for free in early January.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toshi Reagon on Parable\nof the Sower<\/em><\/strong> 
\nSaturday, February 20, time TBD <\/p>\n\n\n\n

IESS is partnering\nwith Evergreen Tacoma and several Olympia\nprograms to welcome musician, composer, curator, and\nproducer Toshi Reagon<\/a>. Reagon\u2019s rock opera Parable\nof the Sower<\/em> is based on the book of the same name by Octavia\nButler. Reagon is a \u201cone-woman celebration of all that\u2019s dynamic,\nprogressive and uplifting in American music,\u201d in rock, blues, R&B,\ncountry, folk, spirituals and funk.  More information will be\navailable soon.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winter\nCourse: Reimagining Community Safety<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evergreen Faculty Eirik Steinhoff\nwill be teaching a 4-credit course in Winter and Spring\n2021 entitled Reimagining Community Safety<\/a> with some events open\nto the Evergreen community, including the launch of a screening\nseries on mass incarceration and liberation education. Watch your email\nfor announcements of dates and times.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

President\u2019s Equity Fund Information<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to\nannounce that, after a short hiatus, the President\u2019s Equity\nFund online application will be opening soon for winter and\nspring quarter applications, so keep an eye on your email for our\nannouncement! New grant guidelines and an updated online\napplication will be posted to our website when the application period\nopens. Winter quarter applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis and\nclose in the latter part of January. Spring quarter applications\nwill close in early February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stay tuned for relaunch\nof Inclusive Excellence Action Plans <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, the Office of the Vice\nPresident for IESS led trainings for each division of the college in developing\nInclusive Excellence Action Plans. After a year of staffing changes,\npandemic, and shifting priorities, we\u2019re relaunching\nthis vital work. The demand for racial justice nationwide\nhas shown the urgency of placing equity at the forefront of all our\nefforts. The college has also committed to this work\nin our Accreditation Report<\/a> and Campus Climate Survey Executive\nSummary<\/a>. Our students and our colleagues are counting on us to\nlead the way in creating a more just and fair institution. IESS will\nre-engage the campus in these efforts in the new year! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SAVE THE DATES: Evergreen\nEquity Symposium April 13, 14, and 15<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Evergreen Equity Symposium is\nplanned for Week 3 of Spring Quarter, and will feature a keynote address, as\nwell as several other exciting speakers, workshops, and other events. More\ndetails to come! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
