These recommendations need to come\nfrom all of us; the people on the front lines serving students every day.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are excited to be in a place to\nshare and welcome you&nbsp;into&nbsp;this conversation!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In\nbrief,&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>you\nshould know:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>This conversation and design work includes you!\u00a0\u00a0We have\u00a0created multiple ways for you to engage,      beginning with canvas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>Our timeline is brief, with a recommendation submission\u00a0due to Senior Leadership\u00a0mid-February, followed by an implementation plan.\u00a0<\/li><li>Our design team is made up of student-facing staff\u00a0from\u00a0across the college and faculty. We approach this work\u00a0with great heart\u00a0and\u00a0deep joy and gratitude for our community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong><strong>:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The\u00a02018 reorganization and reduction moved\u00a0student affairs\u00a0offices and functions across\u00a0multiple divisions.\u00a0<\/li><li>The 2020 June budget\u00a0reduction saw the elimination of the Vice Provost for Student Engagement,\u00a0a position\u00a0that served in the role of\u00a0chief student affairs\u00a0officer,\u00a0leaving the remaining offices that are\u00a0situated\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0division\u00a0of\u00a0Student\u00a0and\u00a0Academic Life.\u00a0These various offices that were impacted are full of people:\u00a0you and me and all of us,\u00a0who serve students in\u00a0many ways by providing services, programs, and support.\u00a0\u00a0<br>      <br>      <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our\nProcess:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Dr. Larry Roper, <a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.naspa.org%2Fabout%2Ffoundation%2Ffoundation-pillars-of-the-profession%2Fpillars-of-the-profession&amp;data=04%7C01%7Chomchicr%40evergreen.edu%7C2216484bfcaa468660e908d88a622148%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C637411501390034419%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=4bJTAMdPgAhy2h%2FlxLpeKN60zPiG10Ma4%2BtuqJy4eL8%3D&amp;reserved=0\">NASPA&#8217;s 2021 Blackburn Distinguished      Pillar of the Profession<\/a> recipient, has\u00a0successfully supported many campuses experiencing change\u00a0similar to\u00a0ours. He tells us, &#8220;There are hundreds of structures and ways of being organized.\u00a0Just pick one!\u00a0Then,\u00a0do the real work of centering students to center your working relationships across the college.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>With this guidance in mind,\u00a0and using an anti-racist lens,\u00a0a\u00a0small\u00a0team of people across the college have been looking at how we center students, value the profession and culture of student affairs, and\u00a0come together to deliver student services.\u00a0The team is aware that there is great work\u00a0happening; holistic advising, new academic directions, altered student services committee, and more are places where caring and competent people are charting new roads towards\u00a0supporting students. This incredible work will not be disrupted or impeded, rather our team is looking to answer a broader question on what it looks like to serve\u00a0all Evergreen\u00a0students in a student-centered way.\u00a0<\/li><li>To answer that question, the team is engaged in a lot of methods and deploying different tools. One of those tools is a Canvas course named\u00a0<em>Student Affairs at Evergreen<\/em>. It is here, where anyone with a current Evergreen email may access the work this team has embarked on. You can read meeting notes, review reports, or check out our initial charge\u00a0and timeline.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Join\nthe conversation now!<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0canvas\u00a0discussions section\u00a0is a place to be in\u00a0conversation with colleagues across the college about what it means for us to do this work together.
