Wishing you all community care, safety, and hope as\nthis challenging election week winds down.  As we strive to stay in\ncommunity through this post-election period, we encourage you to engage with\nthe exciting array of upcoming programs on Election 2020<\/a>, racial equity, and social justice. YWCA Womxn of Achievement Event scheduled\nfor Friday, November 6th<\/sup><\/strong> has\nbeen postponed<\/strong> due to heightened safety concerns related to the\nelections.  The YWCA felt it necessary to center people\u2019s safety,\nparticularly the safety of Black and Brown staff and community members in this\npolitically charged climate. In the spirit of Collective Care, they\u2019ve decided\nto reschedule Womxn of Achievement for early 2021. <\/strong> Evergreen will\ncontinue to partner with the YWCA to make this event possible, as they\ncelebrate the incredible honorees who work to advance racial justice and\nwomxn\u2019s empowerment. An Evening with George Takei,\nTuesday, November 10, 5:30 p.m. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Library and Media Services in partnership\nwith College Relations and The Evergreen State College Foundation invites\nyou to hear and learn from celebrated actor, author, and activist George Takei.\nThis event is the 2020 Cal Anderson Lecture, a virtual event in conversational\nformat to provide an opportunity to take stock of where democracy has been and\nwhere it is going, drawing on Mr. Takei\u2019s life experience and decades\nof outspoken advocacy for human rights on many issues\nincluding race, gender, and sexual orientation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture series honors the legacy of\nCal Anderson, Washington state\u2019s first openly gay legislator and\nchampion of civil rights and informed engagement with public policy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversation\non Community Safety, Policing, and Racial Justice <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cross-campus\nconversational panel will explore urgent national and regional issues, brought\nto the fore in the wake of George Floyd\u2019s killing, with historic protests\ncalling for Black solidarity and racial justice.\nPanel members will present a range of perspectives on\ncommunity safety and policing through a racial equity lens. Speakers include\nalum and Seattle Times<\/em> Social Justice columnist, Naomi Ishisaka,\nTacoma Faculty and filmmaker Gilda Sheppard, and alum, Board of Trustees\nmember, and former Captain of the Washington State Patrol, Monica\nAlexander. Facilitated by Therese Saliba, Interim VP of Inclusive\nExcellence & Student Success, the panel will be followed by Q & A with\nour community.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
