As I mentioned\u00a0at the first faculty meeting of the year, we are taking a phased approach to\u00a0NAD\u00a0starting\u00a0with\u00a0strategies what will substantially increase enrollment and create a path  to\u00a0financial\u00a0stability.\u00a0\u00a0Some\u00a0components\u00a0will\u00a0move\u00a0forward with\u00a0<em>implementation<\/em>\u00a0this year, some\u00a0will enter a\u00a0<em>planning<\/em>\u00a0phase for\u00a0implementation\u00a0starting\u00a0next year,\u00a0if\/once\u00a0funding can be identified\u00a0and plans are developed, and some elements need further<em>\u00a0design and development<\/em>\u00a0either for feasibility analysis or to incorporate feedback from the feasibility team\u00a0and feedback sessions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty input and advice will be a critical piece of the\nnext stage of the NAD.&nbsp; To that end, we&nbsp;are currently seeking faculty\ninterest for participation on&nbsp;the NAD workgroups&nbsp;listed\nbelow.&nbsp;&nbsp;The highest priority workgroups are\nnoted with an asterisk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a particular interest in serving on any of\nthese NAD workgroups, please&nbsp;send an email to&nbsp;JuliA&nbsp;Metzker (<a href=\"mailto:metzkerj@evergreen.edu\">metzkerj@evergreen.edu<\/a>).&nbsp;These workgroups will count\ntowards faculty governance and will be included in a general call for\ngovernance&nbsp;opportunities&nbsp;next&nbsp;week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will \u201ckick-off\u201d\nthis next phase of Evergreen\u2019s New Academic Directions at the&nbsp;Curriculum\nPlanning Retreat.&nbsp; In addition to providing time for workgroups\nto&nbsp;convene, there will be opportunities for deeper conversation and\nlistening&nbsp;available to all faculty. Please plan to join this launch event\non Wednesday, November 4<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;1:00-\n4:00 pm.&nbsp; Details are&nbsp;forthcoming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certificates*&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(implementation)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: 5-6 faculty, aiming for\none faculty member from each CAT, working with the Standing Committee on the\nCurriculum, who will play a role.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: Build capacity to offer high-quality,\ncompetitive certificates that bring new students to Evergreen and allow\nEvergreen students to &#8220;stack&#8221; credentials as they progress towards\nmatriculation.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: Advise the Certificate Programs\nImplementation team by providing faculty perspective on certificate systems and\npolicy development. Develop a systematic ongoing process for reviewing and\napproving proposals for certificates and use that process during the year to\nstart 4-8 certificates by Fall 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paths of Study*&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(implementation)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: CAT Leaders&nbsp;plus 2-3\nother&nbsp;interested&nbsp;faculty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: Assist the Paths of Study workgroup during\nthe 2020-21 academic year to develop and carry out a plan to fully implement\nPaths of Study at Evergreen.&nbsp; This will provide fully integrated academic\nsystems that will improve the awareness of current and prospective students\nregarding the paths of study available to them and the curricular options\nwithin and between Paths.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation:&nbsp; CAT Leaders will assist the\nworkgroup with the overall implementation of this project, and particular\nelements, including:&nbsp; 1) developing and implementing a shared and\nconsistent strategy for coordinating path development and communicating paths\nto the different audiences for Paths; 2) Assist with crafting a process for\ndeveloping and approving new paths, retiring existing paths, updating path\nnames and merging paths, and assist with implementation of that process when\nthe details of an undergraduate schools model are clear.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Holistic Advising &#8211; Advising\nRoles, Structures&nbsp;and Expectations*&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(planning)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: 4-5 faculty from among\nthe path convenors&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: Develop a student-centered advising\necosystem that integrates&nbsp;advising&nbsp;for&nbsp;high-quality\nacademic&nbsp;decisions and&nbsp;effectively coordinates delivery of student\nservices in support of holistic student success.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: Work collaboratively with\nIESS,&nbsp;SAL, and&nbsp;other student facing&nbsp;staff to make\nrecommendations for the faculty role\nin&nbsp;holistic&nbsp;advising.&nbsp;Align&nbsp;advising structures\nwith&nbsp;Paths of&nbsp;Study.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Holistic Advising &#8211; Academic\nPolicy and Practices Review*&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(design and development)<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: 5-6 faculty, aiming for one faculty member from each CAT.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: To improve equitable access to learning and\ncredit for students by creating guidelines for faculty to create syllabi,\ncommunity agreements, and credit policies that are equity-producing, transparent,\nand promote student success and belonging.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: In collaboration with a team of\nstaff, faculty, deans and directors, review policies and practices for\ndeveloping syllabi, community agreements, and credit policies; to identify\nbarriers to students and to develop guidelines for equitable practices.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>School of Graduate and Professional Studies&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(design and development)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership:\nOne faculty member from each graduate program and 2-3 other faculty members\ninterested in creating professional studies and workforce development offerings\nand credentials within this&nbsp;school.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: To create a proposal for a School of\nGraduate and Professional Studies that increases enrollment in graduate\nprograms and new professional studies credentialing programs, while realizing\nresource efficiencies through coordination of administrative and support\nsystems.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: In collaboration with a team\ncomprised of graduate faculty, deans, graduate directors and assistant\ndirectors to develop a proposal for review by the feasibility team.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>School Design \u2013\nUndergraduate School(s)&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(design and development)<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: 5-6 faculty, aiming for\none faculty member from each CAT&nbsp;working with the Standing Committee on\nthe&nbsp;Curriculum.&nbsp;&nbsp;Native Pathways Program and Evergreen\nTacoma&nbsp;may&nbsp;develop proposals in coordination with this group.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: To develop a proposal with&nbsp;timeline for\ndeveloping, marketing, and launching&nbsp;an&nbsp;undergraduate&nbsp;schools\nmodel proposal that is recommended through a faculty vote in Fall 2020 after\nfeasibility analysis and approval by Senior Leadership.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: In collaboration with a team of\nfaculty, directors, deans and staff in enrollment services and college\nrelations develop a plan for phased implementation of the schools model by fall\n2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hybrid-Online Learning<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(professional development followed by design and\ndevelopment)&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership: 8-10 Faculty interested\nin Hybrid-Online Learning&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: Develop\ncapacity among Evergreen faculty to design and deliver\nhigh-quality,&nbsp;experiential&nbsp;learning in online and hybrid modalities.\nAdvise on the creation of certificates, coordinated studies programs, and\/or\ncourse sequences that can be offered in low residency or online modes\naccessible to part-time or remote students.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Offer 3-4 pilot\nonline&nbsp;courses&nbsp;or programs&nbsp;beginning Fall \u201821.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: Complete a funded online teaching\ncertification as part of a community of practice supported by Academic\nTechnologies and the Learning and Teaching Commons.&nbsp;Advise&nbsp;the&nbsp;&nbsp;certificates&nbsp;workgroup\nin the&nbsp;development&nbsp;of&nbsp;proposals&nbsp;for\ncertificates&nbsp;that&nbsp;feature&nbsp;low residency\noptions.&nbsp;&nbsp;Participants&nbsp;will&nbsp;use what they\u2019ve learned, to\ndevelop and&nbsp;teach&nbsp;online, hybrid, or low-residency&nbsp;classes or\nprograms&nbsp;during the 2021-2022 academic year.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workforce Development&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(design and development, with fall 21 initial\npilot, possibly with additional adjunct faculty lines)<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty Membership: 3-4 faculty with an interest\nin workforce development&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>\nGoal:&nbsp;&nbsp; Conduct\nan analysis of state and federal programs that support workforce development, identify\nfunding sources. Connect those programs to Evergreen strengths. As a pilot,\ndevelop a set of courses that will address real-time needs for workforce\ndevelopment, looking at statewide data related to workforce, such as those\nemerging from COVID-19, among other data points. These courses would launch in\nfall 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Develop a proposal\nfor workforce development programs at Evergreen, to include certificate\nprograms and low residency options. Work closely with curriculum team and CAT\nleaders to develop pilot course proposals and identify faculty needs and\nresource requirements to start in fall 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Capstone&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>(design and development)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty&nbsp;Membership:&nbsp;Ideally&nbsp;one\nfaculty from each Path&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Goal: Build upon the capstone work from this\nsummer to further develop capstones as a strategy to improve curricular\ncohesion for students.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expectation: Work collaboratively with faculty in\nyour Path group and capstone stewards from other paths to finalize a capstone\nproposal for review by Curriculum Area Team (CAT) Leaders and the Student and\nAcademic Life Leadership Team (SAL-LT).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Curricular Initiatives:&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are\nnot&nbsp;formally&nbsp;NAD&nbsp;governance groups.
