If you are interested in teaching next summer, please enter\nyour undergraduate summer school curriculum through the Curriculum Development\nlink in your my.evergreen.edu (at <a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmy.evergreen.edu%2Fofferings&amp;data=02%7C01%7Chomchicr%40evergreen.edu%7Ca8cd312a60b44c5ca7a408d8640027f4%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C637369988819302797&amp;sdata=yRralcmN2l2H4COZPOf63534twgfrJh8s7HRS1RG9Ts%3D&amp;reserved=0\">https:\/\/my.evergreen.edu\/offerings<\/a>). <em>If you are interested in\nrepeating a previous summer undergraduate offering, contact Ruth Brownstein (<\/em><a href=\"mailto:brownstr@evergreen.edu\"><em>brownstr@evergreen.edu<\/em><\/a><em>) to have your previous offering copied\nforward for editing. &nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the\nhiring process for summer is entirely separate from the regular academic year,\nif you have been on adjunct contract during 2019-20 and <strong>did not teach during\nsummer 2020<\/strong>, you will need to submit an employment application to the\nSummer School Faculty posting (<a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fevergreen.peopleadmin.com%2Fpostings%2F2669&amp;data=02%7C01%7Chomchicr%40evergreen.edu%7Ca8cd312a60b44c5ca7a408d8640027f4%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C637369988819302797&amp;sdata=53vxOE3Gf2rdmzUD7eQAus8kQGhVq9a2kDWNeoGLulw%3D&amp;reserved=0\">http:\/\/evergreen.peopleadmin.com\/postings\/2669<\/a>) in addition to entering your\ncurriculum through my.evergreen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Will summer\nschool be remote, hybrid, or in-person?<\/strong> Our Magic 8-Ball comes up \u201chazy, try again.\u201d Therefore,\nwe are asking you to submit program descriptions that are deliberately open on\nthe question, and we will prioritize developing a robust curriculum that can be\ntaught remotely. The word limit is 100 words for a summer catalog description,\nand we will allow a bit of wiggle for the second paragraph on modes of\nlearning; please include a version of that paragraph in your proposed\ncurriculum\u2019s description. Here is a great example, and we ask you to copy and\nmodify the second paragraph to add to <strong>your description<\/strong>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neuroscience is a fast-growing area of biology, at the\ncutting edge of technical and conceptual advances.&nbsp; Want to know how animals touch, hear, see,\nsmell, and remember things? Study ions, molecules, cells, neural networks,\nbrain structure and behavior.&nbsp; We will\nstart with the brain\u2019s cellular computers: neurons\u2013\u2013how they differ from other\ncells, generate electrical signals, and communicate. Topics include the\nphysical and chemical bases for action potentials, synaptic transmission, and\nsensory transduction; anatomy; development; sensory and motor pathways; memory\nand learning at the molecular, cellular, and systems level; and the neuroscience\nof some brain diseases. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether remote or in-person, this offering will include lectures,\nworkshops, and seminars. If remote, learning will include recorded\nlectures and video-conferencing workshop sessions and seminars.&nbsp; Our approach will emphasize participation\nin synchronous (live) sessions; however, if students find themselves\nunable to participate due to technology, caregiving obligations, economic\ndisruption, health risk, or illness, they can work with faculty to pursue\nalternate options to earn related credit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Space,\nschedule, and support: <\/strong>In general, we will design summer to be remote and make the moves\nnecessary to pivot to in person if conditions allow. However, so that\nschedule-bound students can see if your offering will work for them under any\nconditions, please include your maximal schedule, as if teaching in person, as\nyou work up your proposal in the curriculum proposal system.&nbsp; In addition, as usual, we ask you to have\nthat schedule entered into <a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fschedule.evergreen.edu%2F&amp;data=02%7C01%7Chomchicr%40evergreen.edu%7Ca8cd312a60b44c5ca7a408d8640027f4%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C637369988819312787&amp;sdata=8ztfcXZJKmeZ1f1MAuA5ze9x21IY%2BSxG%2Bl5DUdFjZtY%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Schedule\nEvergreen<\/a> by November 1 but, for now, mark all activities as remote. <em>Your\nclass will show up to schedule in the scheduling system one day after you have\nhit the submit button on your proposal in the curriculum system as it takes the\ntwo systems overnight to communicate with each other!<\/em> &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Media Services<\/strong>: Media Services: last year, we asked\nfor summer proposals to include specific requests for space usage and media\nworkshops. This year, we ask that you to request only those services and\nequipment that you would request for a remote version of your offering using\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.evergreen.edu%2Fmediaservices%2Fremote-media-workshop-and-equipment-request&amp;data=02%7C01%7Chomchicr%40evergreen.edu%7Ca8cd312a60b44c5ca7a408d8640027f4%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C637369988819312787&amp;sdata=bDDFWq0fNskadOR0BBVew0d4W8a%2F8UHn0zod6tH8JHg%3D&amp;reserved=0\">Remote\nMedia Workshop and Equipment Request Form<\/a>.<strong>&nbsp;\n<\/strong>If conditions allow a return to in-person work in that area, Media\nServices will reach out for updated requests at that time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One other\nchange for this year is that we will not be soliciting or reviewing proposals\nfrom community members (in response to the current furlough situation and\nreduced administrative capacity). Otherwise, the <strong>process for determining<\/strong>\nour summer offerings will remain essentially the same.
