Please welcome Dexter Gordon to Evergreen as he begins service this week as executive vice president of the college.
Dexter brings to Evergreen a national reputation for his work on equity and inclusion in higher education and a long record of work in the South Sound region. At the University of Puget Sound, he was the founder and director of the Race and Pedagogy Institute at the University of Puget Sound, where he also served as a distinguished professor, director of the African American Studies Program, and professor of communication studies. He led curriculum reform efforts at UPS and his work involved connecting the campus with the community as reciprocal partners to advance equity in education.
Building on Dexter’s track record of leadership and experience, I am making some organizational changes which will help Evergreen streamline senior leadership while providing unified direction of services from student recruitment and admissions through financial aid, registration, advising, and commencement.
The executive vice president’s portfolio will include the Inclusive Excellence and Student Success division and most of the College Relations division, with government relations moving to the president’s office. Interim Vice President for Inclusive Excellence and Student Success Therese Saliba will continue in support of this transition until her planned return to the faculty next spring. Vice President for College Relations Sandra Kaiser will concentrate on COVID response planning before her planned departure from the college this fall.
Dexter is scheduling some get-acquainted meetings over the next few weeks. In the fall, we’ll find an opportunity to welcome him to Evergreen more broadly.
