Dear Colleagues,

I hope the summer is going well.

I am writing to share a comprehensive New Academic Directions summary report. The report contains details of the significant accomplishments on different elements of this project this year and sets timelines, priorities, and expectations for the next stage of this multi-year project. I encourage you to dig in and read through it to catch up on what have done so far and to get a better understanding of the direction we will be taking next year and beyond.

We will have more information about how we are mapping out the work for the next phase of the project by fall quarter. For now, you should know that our priority will be to continue with the accelerated development and implementation of a FLEX curriculum, creation of the School of Professional Studies, moving forward with the certificates project and development of Paths in Psychology/Health and Wellness, and Business/Entrepreneurship. There are folks working on each of these elements this summer.

I’d like to thank Larry Geri for the big lift in pulling this report together with the support of co-leads, Amy Betz and JuliA Metzker, and to all of them for stewarding and advising on the various element of New Academic Direction this year.  I’ll also take this opportunity to let you know JuliA Metzker will be stepping away from co-leadership of this work in the new year. Please join me in expressing deep gratitude to JuliA for her leadership, particularly in giving project teams strategies for collaborative and inclusive work and for and helping the steering committee think strategically about how these initiatives serve students – including those new students we hope to attract.

Please be in touch if you have any questions.

Best wishes,

David
