Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce our common read for next year: adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds. This book is a few years old, but its invitation to think about social change in terms of “critical connections over critical mass” is still relevant, practical, and inspiring.

Our library has a copy of the e-book if you’re interested in checking it out. And everyone is welcome to attend a session on the text at the Designing Learning Experiences that Matter summer institute (there’s still time to sign up! —  https://evergreensc.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8crlo4DovsXSDSm).

Hannah Simonetti and her staff at the First Peoples Multicultural, Trans, and Queer Support Services have graciously agreed to convene a panel of guests to help welcome our new students and to kick off the roster of events leading up to the spring Equity Symposium.

We will announce the section of the book we will be asking new students to focus on by the end of June, but for those of you planning your fall syllabi now, we wanted to flag this in case you wanted to incorporate Emergent Strategy into your thinking.

Respectfully,

  Elizabeth
