“We have the power to support students with disabilities at Evergreen both by removing specific, identifiable barriers to accessing educational opportunities, and by providing all students with uniform practices that strengthen every student’s learning. Led by TRiO’s Disability Support Specialist, we’ll spend the first day of this institute examining the realities of our students’ experiences, the barriers that ultimately lead to inequity, and their consequences. We will examine other college’s services that guarantee accommodations, equitable classrooms, and learning experiences, so we can shape our own goals for embracing the diverse needs of our disabled communities at Evergreen.

The second day of the institute will be a series of workshops and collaborative activities that will deliver tangible tools to promote equal access to physical learning environments, educational materials, assignments, and non-ableist evaluations. Additionally, participants will gain working knowledge about the disability experience, and the impact that education has on the brain’s ability to process and retain information, specifically for neurodivergent students.
