What is one of those <\/span><\/b>mind blowing<\/span><\/b> facts about MSH that you can’t un-know because it <\/span><\/b>it<\/span><\/b> so cool? <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

“It is <\/span>absolutely mind-blowing<\/span> that there are novel stream systems on <\/span>MSH! I am really into stream ecology so that blows my mind!” <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>What attracted you to this research? <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

“Stream ecology focus. Previously I\u2019ve worked in hatcheries and studying urban water systems. The whole concept of novel stream systems, scientist don\u2019t get to witness first-hand novel streams, usually they are very old! So that really stuck with me in my interest of MSH.”  <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span>What is your role in the L3 lab? <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

“To learn from Seniors in the group, get trained on things so that I can continue to pass that knowledge to others. I am leading the blog work, communicating our UG research is important because Evergreen isn\u2019t really known for the research opportunities it provides UG. Public outreach!” <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

What is a future goal you have? Next week, next year or 5 years? <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

“Graduate school! My future goal in life is to obtain my PhD. I never would\u2019ve pictured myself in doing so but I have really found where I excel in college. I think the L3 lab is an ideal environment in which I can learn vital skill sets in preparing myself more for grad school!” <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Do you identify as a Greener? What does that mean to you?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I am still new to Evergreen, so I haven\u2019t found my role as a greener. At the same time, I have. You <\/span>have to<\/span> be both independent and collaborative and I do that with a lot of enthusiasm.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is that thing that you can do now, that your past self would have never dreamed of?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“For starters, I am a first gen student. I didn\u2019t think I was going to go to college. More in depth, I never thought I would excel in statistics and <\/span>scientific<\/span>\u00a0writing. I am very introverted, not normally<\/span>\u00a0vocal<\/span>, but I am so passionate about public outreach. I excel at it and I am not afraid to put my voice out there when it comes to science communication.”\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There’s an idea of a scientist that we all <\/span><\/b>carry,<\/span><\/b>\u00a0how do you fit or break that\u00a0<\/span><\/b>mold<\/span><\/b>\/expectation?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I <\/span>definitely break<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>mold<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0I am not your typical\u00a0<\/span>scientist<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0feel like I bre<\/span>ak those\u00a0<\/span>stereoty<\/span>p<\/span>es<\/span>\u00a0b<\/span>ecause I know\u00a0<\/span>where I<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>belong<\/span>\u00a0in the sciences.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There\u2019s an idea of a fully\u00a0<\/span>ind<\/span>e<\/span>pendent<\/span>\u00a0scientist, but I really believe in collaboration and I think that\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>really how<\/span> it works.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
