Oh we knew the woods, and the resting places<\/p>\n
And the small birds sang when wintertime was over<\/p>\n
Then we’d pack our load and be on the road<\/p>\n
They were good old times for the rover.<\/p>\n

There was open ground where a man could linger<\/p>\n
Stay a week or two for time was not your master<\/p>\n
Then away you’d jog with your horse and dog<\/p>\n
Nice and easy, no need to go faster.<\/p>\n

Now and then you’d meet up with other travelers<\/p>\n
Hear the news or else swap family information<\/p>\n
At the country fairs, we’d be meeting there<\/p>\n
All the people of the traveling nation.<\/p>\n

All you freeborn men of the traveling people<\/p>\n
Every tinker, rolling stone, or gypsy rover<\/p>\n
Winds of change are blowing, old ways are going<\/p>\n
