we need them. their dread, makeshift example.<\/p>\n

They would have thrived on our necessities.<\/p>\n
What they survived we could not even live.<\/p>\n
By their lights now it is time to<\/p>\n
imagine how they stood there, what they stood with,<\/p>\n
that their possessions may become our power.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Cardboard. Iron. Their hardships parceled in them.<\/p>\n
Patience. Fortitude. Long-suffering<\/p>\n
in the bruise-colored dusk of the New World.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And all the old songs. And nothing to lose.<\/p>\n
