{"id":84,"date":"2021-11-15T09:06:34","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T17:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/fischerlab\/?page_id=84"},"modified":"2024-02-29T09:55:10","modified_gmt":"2024-02-29T17:55:10","slug":"tephra-disturbance-ecology","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/fischerlab\/tephra-disturbance-ecology\/","title":{"rendered":"Tephra Disturbance Ecology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-reader-unique-id=\"1\">Since 2010 we have been conducting research at Mount St. Helens to better understand how ecosystems respond to volcanic eruption:<\/p>\n<ul data-reader-unique-id=\"2\">\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"3\"><strong>Plants bounce back!<\/strong> Our research was just featured in this article for Envirobites based on a recent paper from the lab: <a href=\"https:\/\/envirobites.org\/2022\/07\/07\/buried-alive-how-plants-bounce-back-from-volcanic-debris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LINKED HERE<\/a> <br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-163 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/fischerlab\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/616\/2023\/03\/group_at_SR.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"242\" height=\"182\" \/><\/li>\n<li data-reader-unique-id=\"3\">We work in forests affected by the eruption! These\u00a0tephra impacted\u00a0sites are old-growth forests and adjacent clear-cuts that were dumped on with\u00a0between\u00a02-15 cm of\u00a0ash and rock in 1980. Drs. Don Zobel (Oregon State University) \u00a0and Joe Antos (University of Victoria) established plots right after the blast, and they have been measuring ever since.
