March 11, 2026\u2014With the goal of preserving and protecting essential services to Washingtonians, budget leaders today offered their conference supplemental operating budget to the Legislature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Evergreen, the budget gives us a one-time restoration of the $2.7 million cut we took in the last legislative session, along with $35,000 to support the Historic Lord Mansion. We also take a $175,000 administrative reduction; the same as the other public four-year regional institutions. You can see our budget among all state agencies on pages 192-3 of the document<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n While this $2.7 million restoration does not eliminate Evergreen\u2019s operating budget deficit, it does reflect robust and unflagging advocacy for the college at every level over the past ten months. There was unprecedented engagement from our local legislative delegation, the Geoduck Student Union, the alumni-fueled Evergreen Advocates, public-sector unions, the Council of Faculty, the Board of Trustees, the Evergreen Foundation Board of Governors, friendly legislators and our own learning community, successfully making the case for investing in Evergreen. This advocacy will continue after session and in the lead-up to 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The legislative session is scheduled to end at midnight tomorrow, March 12, and the race is on to pass the operating budget in the House and Senate. It won\u2019t be quite the 24-hour legislative marathon around the millionaires\u2019 income tax passed on March 10, but there will be many speeches on the floor before we see this budget passed to the Governor\u2019s desk on March 13.
