Parking

If you’ll be on campus more than once per week, it’s advisable to get a parking permit (available quarterly, annually, or on an academic year cycle). You can have the cost deducted on a monthly basis from your paycheck. You’ll need to fill out a form at the Parking Office in the Seminar I Building to receive your permit. If you are here just once per week, you’ll spend less if you buy a $3.00 pass during each visit, at the parking booth. You will be ticketed if you do not have a permit or daily parking pass. No parking pass is required after 9 p.m. or on weekends. More information can be found here. We have relatively frequent bus service to and from campus. Approximately every half-hour a bus leaves the Library loop headed through the Westside to the downtown transfer station. You and your students need only a valid Evergreen identification card (available at Registration and Records) with the STAR sticker (available at the Parking Office) for unlimited and free bus rides in the Olympia area.

College Closures

The Vice Presidents determine college closures. Canceled classes and college closures are rare, even when other schools in the area are closed. Two basic college policies guide the VP’s decision: the Suspended Operations Policy, which officially closes the college, and the Inclement Weather Policy which applies when the college is open but employees or students cannot get to campus because of weather conditions. The best way to find out about campus closures is to sign up for emergency notifications on your mobile phone and/or by email here. The campus web site has closure announcements, and you can call the main switchboard at 360.867.6000. Closure announcements are also broadcast as early as 6am on the following radio stations: Aberdeen – KBKW/KAYO-AM* 1450; FM 99.3 Aberdeen – KXRO-AM 1320; FM104.7 Seattle – KOMO AM 1000 Centralia – KELA-AM 1170; FM 102.9 Seattle – KIRO-AM 710; FM 101 Centralia – KITI-AM 1420; FM 95.1 Shelton – KMAS-AM 1030 Olympia – KAOS-FM 89.3 Tacoma – KPLU-FM 88.5 Olympia – KGY-AM 1240; FM 96.9 Encourage your students to sign up for the emergency updates, and discuss with your students how you’ll handle class cancellations or absences due to weather. Some faculty leave outgoing voice mails and tell students to call them for information, others ask that students leave them a message if they feel it’s too dangerous to drive.
