We have examined C flux below ground using scanner-based minirhizotron technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/cid-inc.com\/plant-science-tools\/root-measurement-with-minirhizotron\/ci-600-in-situ-root-imager\/?gclid=CjwKCAiA9NGfBhBvEiwAq5vSy2N2mp5XBi5bdhu5m432_A2L5gCxQ8XrFJaY423wx-35p6TgvUJDZRoCIyYQAvD_BwE\">CI-600<\/a>), IRGA technology, estimation of total below ground carbon allocation, root excavation, and\u00a0 nitrogen mineralization and microbial community techniques.\u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/cid-inc.com\/plant-science-tools\/root-measurement-with-minirhizotron\/ci-600-in-situ-root-imager\/?gclid=CjwKCAiA9NGfBhBvEiwAq5vSy2N2mp5XBi5bdhu5m432_A2L5gCxQ8XrFJaY423wx-35p6TgvUJDZRoCIyYQAvD_BwE\">CI-600<\/a> is a scanner based technology which takes large underground images (21.59 x 19.56 cm) in buried 6.99 cm diam. acrylic tubes. Our fine root production estimates have used this technology in the EEON project since 2007. Soils data linked here represents carbon and nitrogen analysis using a Perkin-Elmer 2400 elemental analyzer or combustion methods (depending on dataset). Bulk density and root mass data come from gravimetric analyses of soils and roots. Roots were separated using a hydro pneumatic elutriator method. Soil CO2 efflux data comes from a mobile LC-Pro+ IRGA analyzer (ADC).
