Here are the homework assignments for Discrete Math, organized by the day on which they’re due.  All problems are from the Ensley & Crawley text.  Problem numbers enclosed in brackets are for the upper-division version of the assignment (in addition to those not in brackets).

WEEK 1:

  • Monday, June 22: none.
  • Tuesday, June 23: read Section 1.1 and do the Practice Problems; Section 1.3: 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12bc, 13bc, 17, [23], [24]; Section 1.5: 1, 3, 6abc, 25, [28].
  • Wednesday, June 24: Section 1.4: 1, 3, 9, 10, 11, 14bd, 15bd, 16, [19], [20]; Section 1.5: 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, [17], [18], [20], [22], [30].
  • Thursday, June 25: Section 2.1: 2, 4bd, 5, 10, 13abc, [14]; find the errors in the proofs in the Bad Proofs handout.

WEEK 2:

  • Monday, June 29: Section 2.2: 2, 6, 7bcd, 8, 12, [26], [28], [29]; Section 2.5: 1, 2, 6, 12, 13, 16, [23].
  • Tuesday, June 30: Section 3.1: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 17bef, [20], [21], [22].
  • Wednesday, July 1: Section 3.1: 23, [26], 28, 32; Section 3.2: 1, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, [16], [21]; Section 3.3: [2], [4], [11bd], [21].
  • Thursday, July 2: Section 2.3: 2, 3abc, 4ac; write 5 sample exam questions (as preparation for Friday’s midterm exam).

WEEK 4:

  • Monday, July 13: none.
  • Tuesday, July 14: Section 4.1: 1, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 17a, [19], [20], 24.
  • Wednesday, July 15: Section 4.2: 3, 5, 6, 10, [12], 19, [24]; Section 4.3: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, [8], [9].
  • Thursday, July 16: no homework; class was canceled yesterday.

WEEK 5:
