He has educated in detention centers from New York&#8217;s Rikers Island to California&#8217;s San Quentin State Prison. His work in Rikers Island was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/02\/nyregion\/02rikers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/01\/02\/nyregion\/02rikers.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1617389027443000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE16EHZomZmxCQRbjGyLTfZp4j6mg\">featured in <em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a>. Subscribing to the Freirian model of education, he has designed curricula for oppressed people&#8217;s education projects from San Francisco to South Africa. His latest curriculum on extrajudicial killing of Black people, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.operationghettostorm.org\/curriculum.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.operationghettostorm.org\/curriculum.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1617389027443000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGWwyRwX-3l94ErSQ6UOavOpk6bcw\">We Charge Genocide Again<\/a>, has been used as an educational and organizing tool throughout the country. He is a co-founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackfreighterpress.com\/team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.blackfreighterpress.com\/team&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1617389027443000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFMD0bfQ8i74dAXbBvH-Ci6DIW0NQ\">Black Freighter Press<\/a>, and is San Francisco\u2019s eighth poet laureate. He uses his craft to create liberated territory wherever he performs and teaches. She currently lives and works in Thunder Bay, Canada.
