{"id":669,"date":"2025-10-01T10:24:37","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T17:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ccas\/?p=669"},"modified":"2026-01-13T14:22:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T22:22:01","slug":"announcing-the-campus-sustainability-council-a-new-collaborative-space-for-climate-and-sustainability-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/ccas\/announcing-the-campus-sustainability-council-a-new-collaborative-space-for-climate-and-sustainability-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcing the Campus Sustainability Council: A New Collaborative Space for Climate and Sustainability Action"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>In response to the evolving landscape of sustainability work at Evergreen, we\u2019re excited to announce the formation of the <strong>Campus Sustainability Council<\/strong>\u2014a new collective space for students, staff, and faculty to coordinate, communicate, and collaborate on sustainability efforts across campus.<\/p>\r\n<p>This initiative has emerged in part due to the indefinite dissolution of the Office of Sustainability and the proposed<strong>\u00a0redirection of the Center for Climate Action and Sustainability (CCAS)<\/strong> toward more externally focused, off-campus public service work. The Council is designed to fill the gap by fostering a decentralized, inclusive, and action-oriented community for campus sustainability.<\/p>\r\n<h3 id=\"whatisthesustainabilitycouncil\">What Is the Sustainability Council?<\/h3>\r\n<p>The Council is both a <strong>virtual asynchronous space<\/strong> and a <strong>quarterly in-person roundtable<\/strong>, open to all members of the Evergreen community and the public.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>\r\n<p>A <strong>Microsoft Teams space<\/strong> will be established with dedicated channels for key topic areas such as:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Food &amp; Agriculture<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Transportation<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Energy &amp; Carbon<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Zero-Waste<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Biodiversity &amp; Land Stewardship<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Climate Justice &amp; Education<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Events &amp; Outreach<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>These channels will enable users to <strong>upload documents, share updates, ask questions, and coordinate projects<\/strong> in real-time or asynchronously. The goal is to connect earlier, collaborate more effectively, and advance sustainability goals further.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\t<li>\r\n<p>A <strong>quarterly roundtable session<\/strong> will be held <strong>every Wednesday of Evaluation Week<\/strong>, providing a space to:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Reflect on the past quarter\u2019s activities<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Plan for the upcoming quarter<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Identify areas for collaboration<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Share resources and updates<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>These sessions will be <strong>open to the public<\/strong>, and we encourage community members, local partners, and alumni to join the conversation.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h3 id=\"whocanparticipate\">Who Can Participate?<\/h3>\r\n<p>Everyone. The Council is not run by any single office or department\u2014it is a <strong>shared space<\/strong> for all who care about sustainability at Evergreen. Whether you\u2019re working on a class project, managing a campus initiative, or just curious about how to get involved, you\u2019re welcome.<\/p>\r\n<h3 id=\"whatsnext\">What\u2019s Next?<\/h3>\r\n<p>More information will be released as final details are completed, including how to join the Teams space and participate in the first roundtable.
