This might include researching examples from other institutions as well as designing original Evergreen materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Plan for MESA Nature Walks<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">Develop a plan for casual summer nature walks with an ecological focus, hosted by the Masters of Environmental Studies Association. It might include optional topics for discussion, bingo cards, or nature kits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Eddy Covariance Clock Tower Monitoring Project<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">Assist with data management and communications for the Eddy Covariance project measuring forest carbon flux from the clock tower. Outreach might include signage for the community and data visualization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Bulkhead Removal Ecological Restoration Studies &amp; Monitoring<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">Planning and implementing an institutional plan for sustaining monitoring of the ecological effects of the removal of the bulkhead on the campus beach and its replacement with natural soft armoring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Land Stewardship Team<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">Form a Land Stewardship Committee to guide the sustainable use and management of undeveloped campus land, establishing formal policies addressing environmental, cultural, and recreational impacts,\u00a0 and supporting community engagement. The college currently faces challenges in managing the undeveloped\u00a0 two-thirds of the campus, including its forests, wetlands, and beach areas. Historical usage without comprehensive management plans has led to environmental and recreational impacts that require immediate attention to prevent further degradation. The Committee would include faculty with expertise in ecology, staff from the Climate Center, student representatives, and participants from Facilities and the Tribal Liaison Office. It would:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">1) Categorize land areas in the campus reserves and establish clear guidelines on permissible activities in them, aiming to minimize ecological impact while maximizing educational and recreational benefits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">2) Engage with the campus community and external stakeholders, including local tribes and environmental groups, to foster a collaborative approach to land stewardship.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">3) Establish a framework for ongoing monitoring of land use and the effectiveness of implemented policies, with annual reporting to ensure transparency and accountability.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Restoration Plan for the Back Lot Dirt Mounds<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 13pt\">Assess, plan, and potentially implement a native habitat restoration project in the dirt mound area behind Evans Hall, including ecological monitoring, signage, and adaptive management strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Evans Library &#8216;Library of Things&#8217; \u2013 Eco Kits Expansion Create and promote new items for the library\u2019s environmental check-out kits such as forest bingo cards, scavenger hunts, and bird-watching kits.
