If you are aware of a state which you call is,
\nOr reality,
\nOr life,
\nThis implies another state called isn’t,
\nOr illusion or unreality,
\nOr nothingness,
\nOr death.
\nThere it is-
\nYou can’t have one without the other.
\nAnd so as to make life poignant,
\nIt’s always going to come to an end.
\nThat is exactly, don’t you see, what makes it lively.
\nLiveliness is change, it’s motion.
\nSo, you see, you’re always at the place where you always are.
\nAnd you think, ‘wowie, little further on and we’ll get there. I hope that we don’t go further down so that we lose what we already have.’
\nBut that is built into every creature’s situation,
\nNo matter how high,
\nNo matter how low.
\nSo, in this sense all places are the same place,
\nAnd the only time you ever notice any difference is in the moment of transition.
\nWhen you go up a bit, you gain.
\nWhen you go down a bit, you feel disappointed, gloomy, lost.
\nYou can go all the way down to death.
\nSomehow, there seems to be a difficulty in getting all the way up.
\nDeath seems so final,
\nNothingness seems so very, very irrevocable and permanent.
\nBut then if it is, what about the nothingness that was before you started?
\nOn the contrary, it takes nothing to have something,
\n‘Cause you wouldn’t know what something was without nothing.
\nYou wouldn’t be able to see anything, unless there was nothing behind your eyes.
\nThe most real state is the state of nothing.
\nThat’s what it’s going to all come to.<\/p>\n
