“Walking to Santiago de Compostela” is a two-quarter study abroad program offered by Bill Arney in the winter and spring quarters, 2016. Winter quarter, on campus, we will study El Camino, the collection of traditional pilgrimage routes that all end in Santiago de Compostela in the Autonomous Community (comunidad autónoma/comunidade autónoma) of Galicia, northwestern Spain. The winter quarter will include four hours a week in “Conversational Spanish” offered by David Phillips. Spring quarter, students will walk the Camino to Santiago and, likely, the Camino Finisterre, the way to “the end of the world.” Near the end of the quarter we will gather in Santiago or Finisterre to reflect together on our experiences.
A longer program description is available on the “Program Description” page. Check other pages for resources on the Camino, estimates of program expenses and other important information. These pages will change as the program takes shape. Send comments and questions to Bill at arney@evergreen.edu.
