{"id":628,"date":"2021-06-15T10:49:36","date_gmt":"2021-06-15T17:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/artlectureseries\/?p=628"},"modified":"2021-06-15T10:49:36","modified_gmt":"2021-06-15T17:49:36","slug":"week-2-eirik-steinhoff-wednesday-april-11-20181130-100-pm-in-the-recital-hall-com-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/artlectureseries\/week-2-eirik-steinhoff-wednesday-april-11-20181130-100-pm-in-the-recital-hall-com-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 2, Eirik Steinhoff: Wednesday, April 11, 2018,11:30-1:00 pm, in the Recital Hall, COM Building"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"240\" height=\"286\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.evergreen.edu\/artlectureseries\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/269\/2021\/06\/Eirik.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-629\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Eirik Steinhoff&nbsp;teaches and co-teaches interdisciplinary programs with titles like \u201cHow to do things with words,\u201d \u201cImperialisms,\u201d \u201cForensics,\u201d \u201cA New Middle East,\u201d \u201cLiterary Arts Toolkit,\u201d \u201cWords\/Woods,\u201d and \u201cGateways for Incarcerated Youth\u201d at The Evergreen State College, where he has been a Visiting Member of the Faculty since 2013.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has also taught courses on Shakespeare, Early Modern Poetry, critical theory, rhetoric, poetry, and poetics at the University of Chicago (where he got his Ph.D. in English), Bard College (where he got his B.A.), and Mills College.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early 21st century he was the editor of&nbsp;Chicago Review, and in 2009 his translations from Petrarch\u2019s&nbsp;Rime Sparse&nbsp;appeared as&nbsp;Fourteen Sonnets&nbsp;from Albion Books (San Francisco).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2010 he taught at Green Haven Correctional Facility in NY state under the auspices of the Bard Prison Initiative, and in 2014 he co-facilitated a seminar with faculty at Al-Quds University in Palestine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He co-edits&nbsp;Black Box: A Record of the Catastrophe, and he works with students and teachers behind bars in Washington state under the auspices of the Black Prisoner Caucus\u2019s T.E.A.C.H. program (\u201cTaking Education and Creating History\u201d).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bulk of his study in the classroom and beyond revolves around two questions:&nbsp;\u201cWhat needs to be the case for things to be otherwise?,\u201d and&nbsp;\u201cHow do we make our knowledge common?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Evergreen Art Lecture Series: Eirik Steinhoff\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hgFsPzeNypQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
