She is author of three books of poetry\u2014<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aerialedge.com\/interval.htm\">interval<\/a>&nbsp;(Edge Books 2004), a Small Press Traffic book of the year;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/tinfishpress.com\/?projects=remember-to-wave\">Remember to Wave<\/a>&nbsp;(Tinfish Press 2010); and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/tinfishpress.com\/?projects=a-tale-of-magicians\">A Tale of Magicians Who Puffed Up Money that Lost its Puff<\/a>&nbsp;(Tinfish Press 2016); and co-author with Jules Boykoff of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/kaiasand.net\/landscapes-of-dissent-book\/\">Landscapes of Dissent: Guerrilla Poetry &amp; Public Space<\/a>&nbsp;(Palm Press, 2008).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sand works across genres and media, dislodging poetry from the book into more unconventional contexts. From 2013-2015, she served with Garrick Imatani as artists-in-residence at the City of Portland Archives and Records Center, responding to historical surveillance files on local political activists; and then she created textile art with street vendor Marcia Rodrigues Braga during her&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/largodasarteseng.tumblr.com\/post\/131175568118\/poetry-and-impermanence-in-public-spaces-meet\">Despina International Artist Residency<\/a>&nbsp;in Rio de Janeiro in 2015.&nbsp; Much of her work has focused on economic injustice and homelessness, from a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=haU0ahekW8I\">magic show<\/a>&nbsp;she created about the financial collapse to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.right2survive.org\/\">Right 2 Survive<\/a>&nbsp;Ambassador Program she co-founded for housed people to learn from people experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the executive director of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetroots.org\/\">Street Roots<\/a>, a weekly newspaper sold in Portland, Oregon, by people experiencing homelessness and poverty as means of earning an income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Evergreen Art Lecture Series: Kaia Sand\" width=\"676\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DzDTBDdBKCo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kaia Sand&nbsp;is a&nbsp;poet,&nbsp;artist, and community organizer.
